Share Skipton
Share Skipton’s vision is to create a more sharing, sustainable Skipton.
Our mission is to:
• establish and run a library of things, which lends items to our communities at an affordable cost.
• establish and run initiatives to share, repair and create.
• encourage and enable our communities to share resources, reduce waste, repair and reuse more, and promote a circular economy.
Our library of things, based at 48 Newmarket Street, Skipton, lends things for short periods of time (such as a week) at low cost to people from Skipton and surrounding areas. We are volunteer-run and most things in the library are donated. Volunteer roles include Librarian, DIY Technician/PAT Tester, Marketing and Communications, Digital Technician.
Our current opening hours are Tuesdays 4-7 and Saturdays 10-1. We hope to increase our opening hours as we recruit more volunteer librarians.
To borrow, people first need to become members – standard membership costs £10 a year, concession membership £5, and supporter membership £10-50 a year. Members receive £3 borrowing credit on their account on joining and on renewal. Membership details are on our website.
We have an online catalogue of 200+ items, over 70 of which are currently free to borrow. Borrowers can browse and reserve items online 24/7.
We welcome donations but only accept things that are pre-approved. If anyone wishes to donate an item for the library we ask that they fill out a donation form on our website first so we can assess if it is suitable.
We aim to align with the following UN Goals
- Reduced Inequality
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Responsible Consumption and Production
- Climate Action
