Share Skipton Introduces Its Repair Cafes

Share Skipton, the charity known for its sharing services in Skipton, announced on May 27th, 2025, that they were introducing their new Repair Cafes to the local community to begin in the June of 2025. The first one was hosted on June 28th and taking place at the former St Andrews church building in Skipton.

Repair cafes are a new concept and are community events running from 10am to 1pm on the last Saturday of each month, which invites people to bring household items to be repaired by expert repairers who are volunteering their time for free. Share Skipton has introduced these as a great way to save items that are fixable rather than them being thrown away and going to landfill. It also provides opportunity to learn some mending skills whilst your there.

They have stated that these events with run once a month, posting monthly to attract volunteers, with their message ‘just a small time commitment can make a big impact!’. Their main message they are putting across with running these cafes is that they want to be able to fix things rather than just discarding them. So far, their first event resulted in a large turnout with over 100 people in attendance.

All sorts of items can be brought to be repaired from clothes to electrical appliances or bikes, and tools such as knifes or secateurs can be brought along for sharpening services, making it an event inclusive for a wide variety of repairs you may need. They provide tools available to help mend these items, and their volunteers will work alongside you to help. The repair categories each month are determined on how many volunteers they get, so it is best to check Share Skipton’s website and check their list of included services before attending each event. Even if they cannot repair your item, they are happy to try give as much advice as they can.

As they are passionate about pushing their message to reduce waste going to landfill, all repairs are free, but donations are welcomed but not required. Alongside their main repair services some other services are run potentially with a small cost or donation, such as an eco-refill station hosted by Miniml of Silsden and an onsite cafe. So, these events are definitely worth a visit!

Their next upcoming Repair Cafes are on the 26th of July, 30th of August, 27th of September, 25th of October and the 29th of November. Make sure you’re in attendance!
